My Story

Hello, I'm Dr. Evans, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) specializing in wound care. Holding triple board certifications as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP-BC) , Wound Care Specialist Certified (WCS-C), Excisional Debridement Specialist Certified (EDS-C), and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I bring over 31 years of robust experience to the nursing profession.

My nursing journey began in 1993 as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the U.S. Army, followed by earning my Associate's Degree in Nursing as a Registered Nurse at Pearl River Community College. Building on this foundation, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Phoenix in 2005 and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Alabama in 2009. Recognizing the importance of geriatric care, I pursued a post-master's Certificate as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner in 2010.

Committed to advancing nursing, I completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2015.

In January 2024, I achieved board certification as a Wound Care Specialist Certified (WCS-C) and an Excisional Debridement Specialist (EDS-C), further solidifying my expertise in wound management. My dedication to excellence in wound care is demonstrated through my continuous skill refinement and staying updated on the latest advancements in the field.

Nature Lover: I thrive in the great outdoors, whether it's fishing by the lake or simply soaking in nature's beauty.

Family Time: My family, including my beloved dog Spencer and my husband Jimmie, brings me immense joy. Spending quality time with them is my favorite way to unwind.

HGTV Fanatic: I find relaxation in watching HGTV and exploring the latest interior design trends. There's something comforting about envisioning new decor ideas.

Proud Veteran: I proudly served in the U.S. Army, and the experiences have profoundly shaped who I am today. I wear the title of a veteran with immense pride.

Embracing Life: Beyond my professional roles, I cherish being a wife, dog mom, sister, daughter, and woman. Each role adds depth and richness to my life.

In my downtime, you'll find me enjoying a mix of R&B, smooth jazz, country & western, violin music, and pop. These snippets offer a glimpse into my multifaceted personality, reflecting my belief in finding balance and joy in every aspect of life.

My Education 

My educational journey has been a testament to my unwavering commitment to advancing my knowledge and expertise in nursing. It's been a continuous pursuit of learning, marked by significant milestones and achievements that have shaped my career and prepared me to provide high-quality care to patients across diverse healthcare settings.

In January 2024, I obtained certifications as a Wound Care Specialist (WCS-C) and an Excisional Debridement Specialist (EDS-C) at the Advanced Health Institute. These certifications have equipped me with specialized skills and knowledge essential for effectively managing complex wound care cases and performing excisional debridement procedures.

My academic pursuits at the University of South Alabama, College of Nursing, were pivotal in honing my skills and preparing me for advanced practice roles. From January 2012 to July 2015, I pursued a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a focus on Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nursing (FPMHNP). This doctoral program not only deepened my understanding of psychiatric and mental health nursing but also enhanced my leadership and clinical decision-making abilities.

In addition to my DNP, I completed a Post-Masters Certificate as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP) from August 2008 to May 2010. This program provided me with specialized training in addressing the unique healthcare needs of older adults, including comprehensive geriatric assessments, chronic disease management, and palliative care.

Prior to my doctoral studies, I pursued a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from August 2008 to December 2009. This program focused on advanced psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment modalities, preparing me to provide holistic care to individuals with mental health disorders.

My journey in nursing began at the University of Phoenix, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from April 2004 to November 2005. This undergraduate program laid the foundation for my nursing career, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of nursing principles and practice.

Before pursuing my BSN, I completed an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Nursing from Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS, from August 2001 to May 2003. This program provided me with hands-on clinical experience and prepared me for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

My nursing career began with a Certificate of Completion for Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) from Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg, MS, from January 1993 to December 1993. This foundational program equipped me with the essential nursing skills and knowledge necessary to embark on my journey in patient care.

Each step of my educational journey has contributed to my growth as a nurse practitioner, enabling me to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients across the lifespan. My diverse academic background and extensive clinical experience have prepared me to address the complex healthcare needs of individuals and families with compassion, competence, and dedication.
